Redeem, O Hari, redeem this wretched one!

Karuṇāmaya! O Thou who art full of love!

Keep him who knows not sadhana nor worship, on Thy path!

I fail to see a rescuer on this shoreless sea;

My life is worn out by sufferings and impiety –

There’s death all around, so grant me refuge;

Shelter this weary and fatigued soul in Thee!

The night gathers, the light is now out;

In vain I spent my day toiling about –

The path is lost, I see no succour;

I turn to You, Lord, earnestly seeking Your favour.

Confused I wander, and drift further from Thee,

In this abyss I’ve lost my way, the clouds of illusion have blinded me.

Alas! who will now bring solace to me?

All are departed, Lord! Pray, do not leave –

Cast Your propitious eye upon this poor votary!

I looked all around, but found nobody;

Why have You left me in the dark, all by myself?

See, Lord! My world is now turned empty!
