Civilizational Wars on Social Media: Genesis of Hindumisia

As it became more and more likely that President Trump had lost and under the Biden-Harris administration, US is slated to go farther on the Left than ever, a meme was doing rounds in Indian social media circles. Essentially, it observed that it took just one generation for US and Russia to exchange ideological positions completely. (US had always been seen “right-wing”, free market, Libertarian-spirited country, and USSR was the bastion of communism and far-Left ideologies) India needs to remember, the meme went further, that it is at a similar tipping point. By 2050, we could be either another Islamized state and nation like Afghanistan, or a resurgent Hindu state power as Savarkar and Golwalkar had dreamed. The fate, it concluded, lies in the hands of us.

By the looks of Hindus being largely unperturbed (except for a small section of social media getting outraged) by that the most powerful company in the world has declared their religion itself an obscenity, we do not seem to be doing a very good job at it.

For some time, it has been clear in the perception of everyone invested in the future of Hindutva/Hinduism/Dharma that:

  1. The end-goal of all Leftism and Left-leaning activism in India, with no honourable exceptions, is the end of Hinduism. To ‘rescue’ the ‘savages’ from their “beastly religion” (as Churchill put it). The cultural Marxists are the battering ram meant to demonize and break down the strong doors holding the fort, and once the shell is broken, Christians and Muslims are sitting ready to convert en masse.
  2. Social Media giants, like all corporates, have been infiltrated by cultural Marxists under the garb of political correctness. The backdoor was HR departments, and the indoctrination tools were Diversity, Inclusivity, Equity, the three being almost exclusively the curriculum emphasis of Business Communication. The one controls the language, controls not just the narrative spoken, but even the thoughts permitted in the heads of the majority. The need, thus, to replace the social media big three − Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube – with a desi ‘alternative’ is being felt for some time.

And yet, the Hindus remain mostly apathetic to their role, congratulating themselves on defeating them only on the ballots, but leaving true sources of their power intact. We either ignore or refuse stubbornly to comprehend that the state power is but only an instrument for the “anti-Hindu gang”, as we love to call them. If only that is taken away, then they still have a plethora of other lethal tricks up their sleeves.

When our backs are pushed to the wall, Hindus mostly retaliate by transient outraging and demanding the metaphorical head of the immediate offender but do little to cut off either financial funding or decisive influence to this visceral hatred.

This emboldening and systemic consolidation of Hindu-hatred has happened not overnight, not in a few months, not even in the timespan of years- although one last decade did see systemic HIndumisiac (-misia means hatred) activity spiking sharply, that was because the intellectual and other pieces of infrastructure had been put in place already, over decades. This is a project of generations of admirable (though malicious) hard work, and will take more than matching up to it in time and gruelling efforts to dismantle.

The foundations were laid of course by the Marxist takeover of public education by communists under Indira Gandhi, in tandem with two more factors- curtailing of Hindus’ rights to own their own temples and run their private educational institutions from the temple funds, and simultaneous promotion of Catholic schools, where Hindumisiac content and narrative were delivered through otherwise-excellent education. Politician after politician ran over each other to become patrons and protectors of churches, defenders of what was not even their own faith when Bajrang Dal and VHP showed up to protest things like calling Hindu rites superstition, forced removal of only Hindu religious symbols from being worn in school times. Common Hindus also collaborated, by not challenging and pushing back in parent-teacher meetings, when they saw that their children were being taught to look down upon their culture.

What it led to was that at least 2-3 generations of Hindu corporate honchos, lawyers, policemen, educated middle class, bureaucrats, even Supreme Court judges grew up with anti-Hindu instinct instilled deep into them- mostly by education, or the shortfall being compensated by popular culture and fiction. Nearly all the Bollywood films sought to demonize Hindus and their religion, in sharp, overt contrast with Islam and Christianity- read this excellent piece by Sandeep Balakrishna for a prototype of a lens to detect this. With the exception of VS Naipaul’s works, the popular and literary fiction also contributed to this demonization of Hindu religions and glorification of Islam. And pulp fiction took it further and wider. Chetan Bhagat might be the champion of political Hindus today due to his support of PM Modi today, but not only did he demonize Modi and the entire Hindu society of Gujrat in his ‘3 Mistakes of My Life’, but his other earlier books were also sprinkled with the same contempt and hatred of Hindus.

Over these sinister foundations, the building of Hindu-hatred was consolidated by the near-complete abandon of religion by most Hindus in their personal lives. For them, as long as the Christian schools’ education was fetching their children an edge in IAS exams’ interviews, or helping them understand faster questions of IIT-JEE, AIEEE, PMT, CA/CFA, etc., it did not matter what anti-religion poison was being sown in their heads. If one cares to read Professor Vamsee Juluri’s  lamentations of Hindu deracination in US, most of it is scarily relatable to what happened in India as well.

When Hindus not just completely divorced from their culture, but full of loathe and contempt from it are in positions of power as heads of Google India (and even Google conglomerate itself), algorithm writers, content reviewers and community guidelines’ enforcers, it was only a matter of time before Hindu faith itself became an object of criminality. And we are nearly there!

In the next installment (s) of this article, shall be covered some recent instances of similar SM apathy to Hindu-hatred, and a brief coverage of what limited courses of action Hindus still have- if any!

  • Sad but True. A lot of catching up and competence is required by the Hindus.
